In this episode, we discuss the proposal for a “Divorce Cooling-Off Period” in Taiwan, which currently has the second-highest divorce rate in Asia.
We explain how divorce works in Taiwan, where couples can currently finalize a consensual divorce very quickly. We introduce the South Korean model—where couples must wait one to three months and attend classes on legal, financial, and parenting issues—as well as similar practices in Singapore, China, and New Zealand.
Rather than simply lowering divorce rates, we explore how these systems aim to help people understand the consequences of divorce and prioritize children's welfare. This episode helps learners understand Taiwan’s social issues, family policy, and international legal procedures.
